Originally coming from Judo in the 1920’s where it was shown to the Gracie family by the travelling Japanese fighter Mitsuyo Maeda. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is now widely considered as essential training to many armed forces and Police as it empowers the user to control much bigger people without striking. Brazilian Jiu JItsu was demonstrated to be very effective against all martial arts with the formation of the UFC where it dominated the early events. As time went by the athletes from other arts studied the submissions of BJJ and so its dominance faded but it remains a constant in all  MMA fighters training regimes to this day.
